This development offers a glimmer of hope for the violence-torn state.

President’s Rule Approved in Manipur Amid Political Vacuum
Imphal, April 4, 2025: The Rajya Sabha has approved the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur, following a lack of claimants to form a government, according to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. SKTV reported that the decision comes after months of political instability in the state, which has been grappling with ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities since May 2023. The conflict has resulted in over 130 deaths and displaced 60,000 people. Shah emphasized that no party has staked a claim to govern, necessitating central intervention. The move aims to restore order and address the deep ethnic divide, with civil society urging dialogue for lasting peace.
